This year for August long weekend, we caught a plane back up North to the wonderful town of Fort Nelson! We were brought up by the new Mr + Mrs Deinstadt for their wedding day and we jumped at the chance to visit. Who would have thought we’d be back up there again so quickly but it was so nice to be there and see all of the familiar faces we love!
To us, Fort Nelson feels like home. Pulling up to the town after the 4 hour drive from the Fort St John airport was like we had never left; as if we were just doing a major grocery run at Safeway and Walmart… But in only that short year away, it seemed like we were coming back to a smaller town. Maybe because we no longer lived there and were again unfamiliar with the small population, but some stores we used to visit had closed down, and the parking lots felt emptier than they had before. What didn’t change though, were the awesome people of Fort Nelson! It takes a certain kind of humorous, kind, and family-oriented people to live in Fort Nelson. The kind of people who work together, for the community – and support one another in sustaining this little wonderful bubble of a town in the North.
Kelly and Kieran are those kind of people! They have a house right off the Alaska Highway, a farm with horses, and two beautiful babies. Their wedding included family only and it was a perfect backyard wedding with traditional family food and homemade wine. Their vows to each other had almost everyone in happy tears and you would never know that this lovely group of people weren’t already family with the amount of love that was around. Kelly is the one who has the love for horses and she wanted them to be just as much as part of the day as the rest of the family. Kieran had surprised her with the best wedding present she could have ever received; a photo of a baby horse that was waiting for Kelly to take her home. We hope you enjoy taking a peek through their beautiful day.
