Almost a year after photographing their engagement session, I headed back down to the lower mainland to photograph their Thanksgiving weekend wedding – complete with a turkey dinner and lots of good stories. (My favourite story consisted of the groom taking the microphone from the best man and stating “sorry dad, I have a tattoo”).
The intimate ceremony and reception space was at The Loft at Earls in Yaletown, downtown Vancouver. Both the bride’s and groom’s personal styles were beautifully reflected in all of the details, with the help of Allessia Imbrogno at Piccolo Design Co.
In the morning, Don and his brothers put on their suits at their grandpa’s house; mostly laughing and attempting to create impeccable knots in their ties – while also fixing belts with hammers… Gillian prepared for the day at the Opus hotel downtown with girlfriends and her mom, who very expertly hooked the buttons on her dress. Gillian’s flawless hair and makeup was done by the talented Danielle at All Dolled Up Makeup & Hair Studio.
Don had surprised Gillian with a bride’s care package which was filled with all of her favourite snacks and items the night before. How wonderfully thoughtful and adorable is that?
As they exchanged their vows they were surrounded by wonderful families (now *family) and friends and there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. After their formal photos and before the reception, they stopped for a pint of beer at the bar next door – an action which was stated as “so them” by friends.
We took photos at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown and a passer by told us the brick wall just around the corner was THE wedding photo wall, so naturally we tried it out. Turns out, it’s one of my favourite photos from the day.
Congratulations Gillian and Don! Thank you for letting me be a part of your day and giving me the opportunity to expand my passion to Vancouver.
