I’ve noticed that some of the other photographers that I admire were putting together their “Best of 2013″ images and I thought, what the heck, why not try it! However, I decided to just pick a few of my favourites from this past year and it was incredibly hard to sort through everything! Some sessions and commercial shoots weren’t included, and if an image that you love didn’t make it on here, it was not in my WordPress folder (therefore it hasn’t been on the blog before).
Going back through all of these images was a really awesome experience. It reminded me of the amount of support I have had in my career so far, and how lucky I am to share these memories. I am completely aware that starting a business is extremely difficult, but starting a business in the photography industry when every cell phone is capable of taking high resolution photos, is even harder. I am so so so grateful to all of you, because you understand and appreciate the art and the vision that goes into my work. It is not just a point and click system, but a thoughtful and planned process. Sometimes extremely technical, and sometimes a perfect moment.
Throughout 2013, I received amazing feedback from family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, competitors, family friends, online communities, and even those I haven’t spoken to in years. I received an abundance of advice, help and training from multiple wonderful photographers in Atlantic Canada. I read book after book, soaking up information about light, style and gear. 2013 made me realize that I AM a photographer. I may not qualify as a “Pro” just yet (according to some associations), but I AM a photographer. And I will keep striving to accomplish more, making each year better than the last.
It is truly remarkable the support I have had, and I wouldn’t be doing what I love if it wasn’t for all of you.
